25. Precious
It was a great movie. That film is about a 16 years girl who is living in Harlem with her mother. She had second child from her father. As Pecola she had a child and raped from her father and also she is ugly( she is thinking like that). She I mean Precious wanted to have white skin and brunette hair.( there is a scene that she is brushing her hair and she is looking at her image actually imagination) She has some problems with her mother because her mother does not like her I think. Her mother behaves her daughter as a thing which helps to continue of her life even we can understand she says when Precious and Mariah Carey's characater have a meeting with Precious's mother, she says that I wanted to have my husband's whole love but Precious had that love and who is going to love me?please say... When I heard that, I just shocked because she is thinking herself even her husband raped her daughter!!!!!
There is a woman who changes Precious's life, I liked her because Precious does not have self- esteem before she met with her. She could understand she can handle with the problems. Besides that Precious wanted to be a "star" like Pauline. Also I recall that there is a scene which she is looking her photographs and photographs are talking with her as Pecola has imaginary friend.

24. The Bluest Eye
Pauline,
She is 9th or 11th children of her family and I think according to that reason her family ignored her. Also, her family migrates from Alabama to Kentucky, when she is a little girl. She met Cholly when she is 15. They marry and move far up to the north.
Pauline has a few friends. Because of Cholly refuses to give her money, she begin to work as housekeeper for white family but she loses the job because Cholly goes there ( he is drunk) to take money from her. White woman, who is employer of Pauline, says Pauline if you leave Cholly I'll give your money otherwise I would not. After that, Pauline becomes pregnant. While she is pregnant, her life is lonely.
The part which she is giving her 2nd birth, there is some sayings about Black women.
In that part that saying tell us that "Black women are like horses, they have no pain".I do not like that part because I know they are human as we're. These people ,who say Black people are different, are humiliating them. After the birth, she find permanent job and she starts o work for white family, who called Fisher's.
This is Pauline's brief story. I forgat the mention Pauline is not attractive and beautiful woman. She does not like to have sex with Cholly and she is disgusting from having sex. These two part affect me and they give some messages about how black people suffered from having some judgements about them.

23. The Bluest Eye part 5 "character analyses"
Cholly:
He was father of Pecola and Sammy and also husband of Pauline. He abondoned by his mother when he was four days old and taken in by his great Aunt Jimmy. His mother vanished. When he was a teenager, he had a friend who was called Blue. Blue was a black, old man who worked at food store. He learnt that he had a father and he tried to find him. He found him but his father rejected him as a son.His early teens Cholly's Great Aunt Jimmy became sick and an older black woman named M'dear warned Aunt Jimmy for getting better she should drink pot liquor and nothing else.Aunt Jimmy ate peach coppler and then died. When his Aunt's funeral was happening, he went to the river with a girl, who was Darlene. They began to sex but their sex was interrupted from two white hunters. They said Cholly that he should be faster and good to be able to finish his issue with Darlene.Cholly was humiliated and powerless, while it was happening. He countinued to having sex with her until hunters got bored and left there. By the way he heard Pauline was pregnant, he went next to her and married with her.One saturday afternoon spring,Cholly was totally drunk, he raped his daughter because she was straching her like her mother's did when Cholly and Pauline met. At the end of the book, he died at working place.
It was his story in the book. I realized something about him and here it is:(there is some sayings about him from the narrator.)
- He was free, dangreously free
- Free to feel whatever he felt, fear, guilt, shame, love, grief, pity
- Free to be tender or violent,to whistle or weep
- Free to sleep in doorways or between the white sheets of a singing woman
- Free to take a job, free to leave it
- He could go to jail and not feel imprisoned, for he had already seen the furtiveness in the eyes of his jailer, free to say," No, suh," and smile, for he had already killed three white men.
- Free to take woman'S insults, for his body had already conquered hers
- Free even to knock her in the head, for he had already cradled that head in his arms.
- Free to be gentle when she was sick, or mop her floor, for she knew what and where his maleness was.
- He was free to drink himself into silly heplessness, for he had already been a gandy dancer, done thirty days on chaing gang, and picked woman's bullet out of the calf of his leg.
- He was free to live his fantasies, and free even to die, the how and when of which held no interest for him.( p.159)
So, we can see he has nothing to loose when his great Aunt Jimmy's death. I do not like him so much because whatever happens he should not rape his daughter. I think writer tries to show us the tragedy of black men's for that period of time. They were powerless but they had to protect their family and even theirselves.

22. The Bluest Eye part 4
I realized that writer tries to show us by giving the events before and then she gave us why characters such as Cholly and Pauline behave like that because first we see the events and then we read their story and understand that is why they're acting like that.
I think writer does that because she wants to create a picture of having streotyping or how having negative ideas could affect people. If we consider that information which I realized may be you can see that too. You know black people suffered so much and also they still have some problems because many people have an idea about black people. I think it still affects people's behaviour in America.
In briefly, I realized that first you read the events and with having these informations you could have bad impression but actually it would not be right because they are not like that. I mean If you have some ideas for other people, you could affect from that ideas and after a while you could understand these ideas are bad because they have some gaps. These gaps would fulfilled only your feelings about them.
Writer uses that gaps and she tries to show that thing is bad because many people suffered from that ideas in different ways like Cholly.

21. The Bluest Eye part 3 "American Dream"
In the book, there is a strict distinction between black people's living conditions and white people's living condition. We can also see that distinction is showing from their sky. White people's living area has blue sky but black people's living area is more polluted than white's. That distiction helps to understand that the theme of discrimination.
In addition in the book there is some detailed explanations about families appereance because there is American Dream and it includes a perfect family, mother takes care of their children and father who works all day and then would come to the home, children who go to the school from their marvelous house. Geraldine's family is one example of perfect family in the book I think because Geraldine, mother of Junior,is married with Louis and she has a cat. They live in nice house, next to playground of Washington Irving school. Her house is too clean and arranged. Here is the American Dream.

20. The Bluest Eye part 2 "American Beauty"
This the part which is I'm going to talk about American Beauty.
In the book, beauty is one of it's themes and one of the main character is so ugly than you can imagine and that girl who is I'm talking about Pecola. Pecola wants to her eyes turns into "Blue" because there is streotyping about ideal women. If you want to be look like ideal women, you should have blond hair with blue eyes and having a pretty appereance. (I mean girl/woman would have look like Beyonce:)You know Beyonce has big lips and hip, So she has all black people's physical appearence.Besides that the first part of the book is telling about ideal beauty because when Pecola had a chrismas gift, she had a baby doll and then she got angry with that.Nobody had to give a gift for her and she did not want to have a baby doll because there was ideal beauty.(page 19,20,21)
Also there was idealization of black people. There is "funk" word I think it means being black and it refers to form of black people's appereance. "... They hold their behind in for fear of sway too free; when they wear lipstick, they never cover the entire mouth for fear of lips too thick, and they worry, worry, worry about edges of their hair"( pg. 83).
At the end of the book, Pecola would has blue eyes and she would become "mad" because writer tries to show us that beauty is not a good thing because it is destructive and changes people to people.

19. The Bluest Eye part 1
The week which we past and in the spring break, we read the book which is called The Bluest Eye. It was a great book because I think writer wants to show how people are divided into two parts in their country and how it affects the people who are discriminated from other which they think they are superior one.The part, which Pecola was delivering her father's baby and she got the birth but after a while she lost her baby and then she became mad, is most effective part in the book, I guess because there was writer themes, which are discrimination, beauty and lack of love. For discrimination we can see the part of there was a gossip about Pecola and her father. That gossip affected Pecola I guess because she became mad and she had an imaginary friend. She told her all problems to her imaginary friend. We can see that froming of imaginary friend causes of lack of love and discrimination because she had nobody to talk with her. The gossip affected her friend's relationship with her in terms of bad way because they began not to talk with Pecola.
Meanwhile Claudia could not escape from thinking of Pecola's baby because Pecola was ugliest one and her baby would be ugly than her and that's why Claudia was waiting the birth impatiently. When the birth was happened and the baby was born prematurely but after a while baby was death. I think there is a metaphor because of Pecola had blue eyes and she felt that she was beautiful but she had the thing which she could not have and she was punished because of that thing. In the final part of the book, there is not any saying about Claudia.
This is my first interpretations about the book, the other parts would be I'm going to talk about.:)

17. relations between honor killing and Hanife:)
We read the story about honor killings which is called Hanife and It was explaning situations between victim and murderer because there is a killing event. In the Hanife writer gave a great imagery to the readers to understand the event. At the begining of the story Hanife killed from three men and villagers came next to her body and they did only putting some stones of her body's circumference. Her mother looked like so calm because I think she would guess it would happen whatever would happen. Whatever happens,It does not matter someone took someone else's life.It is not right and nobody could do anything to escape from that ending. Hanife was carrying the golden collar and it symbolyses traditions I guess because she took it from Hasan and they began to be as a couple.I'll explain relations detailed later.:))
16. Honor Killings and Hanife
Honor killing is a kind of breaking the rulesof our culture because we learnt or already knew that people's life is not worth anything in the world but If we started to talk about honor killings, we could not consider that worth to women who live in Eastern part of Turkey. In Eastern part of Turkey many women killed because of honor killing. It does not matter these women murdered from their family members and also that disgusting event is covering because there is no evidence to have the rate of how many of women murdered for honor killing.
Also, I could not understand that is why male dominance is not let women could the strenght in the society? I knew that there is feminism but It should be. Otherwise, might be women are wedged in with that pressure more than before. I think honor killing is not acceptiable and It would not be.

15. shooting an elephant:))
First of all when I started to read that story,I questioned it's title and then at the end of the story an elephant killed. It was bad because elephant's dying part was so detailed I guess. I knew that elephant could have hatred. They have memories about their owner and they can punish their owner. I guess that is why Indian people have respect for them. Elephants are smart animals:)) They know how to act to people. Also, George Orwell is a kind of writer that explains the real situations on animals by doing metaphors.( please check animal farm:) He uses some symbols to explain the real situation. At the end of story may be he did not want to kill the elephant but he did.
And I liked to share some different informations about elephants:
1)Elephant trunks can get very heavy. It is not uncommon to see elephants resting them over a tusk!
2)Elephants cry, play, have incredible memories, and laugh!
3)Elephants are sensitive fellow animals where if a baby complains, the entire family will rumble and go over to touch and caress it.
4)Elephants have greeting ceremonies when a friend that has been away for some time returns to the group.
5)Elephants grieve at a loss of a stillborn baby, a family member, and in many cases other elephants.
6)Elephants don't drink with their trunks, but use them as "tools" to drink with. This is accomplished by filling the trunk with water and then using it as a hose to pour it into the elephant's mouth.
79Interestingly, the Asian elephant is more closely related to the extinct mammoth than to the African elephant

Simge, Ezgi and I did our presentation the week which we passed. It was tough but nice because we had a great audience.:)) We wanted to present great presentation I hope we did. We took nice feedbacks and it is greatful because we worked on that presentation. Now, we knew that we should evaluate our order of our presentation and may be we'll do some changes. I liked to tell about author's life because it was weird.I wish our final presentation would be better than that presentation.:)

13.Hanife
Today, we had a prenstation about "Hanife". It was so nice because they did not do any kind of forcing to ask chosen people:)))In briefly it's summary: Hanife murdered and then there was a ritual which was doing by women and children throw stones to the body of Hanife. I guess they did it because Hanife was evil and totaly wrong. There was flashbacks from Hanife's memory which was about Hasan who was her first. Hasan wanted to take gold coin from Hanife and after that Hasan left Hanife by herself because he went to Germany to work. Hanife wanted to take revenge from him but she did not do that. She murdered by Ahmet, Karali and Mustafa.
Because of traditions people would not kill anyone, It is not fair. People could not do that any actions like killing people to be able to protect their honesty. People's honesty is not directly relating with external forces. I mean by saying external forces such as gossip...These thing are really bad but customarily these things are acceptable. I really do not get anything because there is no way to out.

11. I have a dream
Today, I listened again Martin Luther King Junior's speech. Suddenly I realized the speech fulfilled with emotion because when he was saying " I have a dream" sentence, people ,who were listening him, acclaimed him after his saying. I have no idea about you could get what I'm trying to say.:))I hope you could get.
Because in his speech I think If they could accept all unfair things which was happening in that period, these things could happen again, again and all over again. However, If they could not have acquiescence, they could break prejudices and they could live in better conditions even feel comfortable. His speech is the first step of these will's. He encourage people to be able get their own rights because there is nothing more or less between black and white human being in the world. Meanwhile I really do not like to say white and black men/women because It recalls me only colour names. It is bothering I guess classifying people in order to look their skin colour.
One of my classmates mentioned in her blog page. Simge supports that black men had to look like as a tough men in order to get respect in society in briefly. I totaly agree with her ideas about black men. They had bad history. They had to look like as a strong man. Violence is not a good way. As Martin Luther says in his text " Violence is immoral because it thrives on hatred rather than love. It destroys community and makes brotherhood impossible." Freedom depends on nonviolent resistance.
Violence is cowardly and they should look like tough guys because violence was appeared in their lives as you know. However, violence is easy way.

10. A party down at the square
While I was reading the story, I felt so bad because somebody had suffering from torture and people, who were watching him, was having fun from the scene.I still could not belive people could be frozen and emoutionless like them and I could not understand why they were doing that. In the story there was racism, violence, nationalism, lack of justice, egoism, voyeurism. The story was telling from first person who was white and southern. The main thing ,which I was affected from it, is when narrator saw nigger's burned fingers, he said I would not eat barbeque. I think it helps to get picture about the rate of racism in that period. Even white person disgusted from the scene, It would be really disgusting and dehumanizing. After they burned the man, cyclone was appeared. I guess writer wanted to show us the picture about racism is bad and If you wanted to do that, you would be punished from god because you are only human, not god and as a humanbeing you could not decide which one is superiror than other.

It is a kind of secret.:)) I liked so much.:)Each group prepared a question. After that, these groups asked the question to the class. It was so funny.;)The second hour, we discussed Martin Luther King J.'s article. Non-violent resistance is a way to solve the problematic issue about acquiescence. Violence is cowardly.( This is another important detail of his article)

8. research paper topics
While I was choosing my sources, I tried to be careful about their information and how I could relate them. That's why I did a brainstorm after I read quickly the articles and then I did my draft outline and then I decide which one I need to pick up. Whatever I did my choices. I choose honour killing in Turkey because I realize that subject is my topic. I feel I could explain it in my words.:))That was my first impression about the question. By the way you know I could not choose the topic and it was tough part for me. After that I searched my topic but there are not many articles to be able to explain my idea about the topic. Because of that reason I had some problems but I think I get over them. Firstly, I felt panic and then I tried to understand my problem about the search after that I choosed my sources. I wish the final draft would be better because I try to do my best.:)))

7.AFI's List SABRINA
I watched that film. It was lovely because it's script fulls with love.:))It's subject is poor woman falls in love with rich guy but actually in that movie it is not simple like that.:) Sabrina was living with Larrabee family but she is daughter of their chauffeur. She falls in love with David Larrabee who is little boy of the Larrabee family and playboy.( he dates with many woman)She went to be able to forget David to Paris and she worked for Vogue magazine. After A few years she turned back and then David realized Sabrina. When he noticed Sabrina, David's older workholic brother Linus realized that he fears that David would not marry with Elizabeth. I realized that I could say anything about Elizabeth. Elizabeth is the daughter of a big company's owner and Linus's company and Elizabeth's father's company would coalesce because of that reason, David could not like any other girl like Sabrina.
Whatever Linus did, Sabrina falls in love with him and he removed Sabrina's attention from David. There was a scene which took place camelia I liked it so much.:) When Sabrina learned Linus's purpose, she wanted to turn back to Paris but she did not know Linus falled in love with her and he followed her to be able to purpose marriage.:)) By the way I have to say Harrison Ford was playing Linus.:) Whatever he cathes Sabrina and purposed her. Now,if you are guessing the answer yes or no, you should watch it because I could not say:)))
I liked the music of the movie and Sting performed one song of the movie.

6. AFI's list Forest Gump
Like I said before I'll watch other movies which are chosed from AFI. I watched Forest Gump. My first impression about the film is how nice it is. Especially I really liked the scene which Forest and a woman was waiting the bus and Forest opened the chocolate box and he started to tell about his life to woman who sat next to him. Firstly, he began to talk about his mother. By the way there are some points which I liked such as his mother said eating sweet things causes sweet talk and his best chocolate is flavored with caramel.:)I guess that's why he opened the chocolate box and he shared the chocolate with that woman. Meanwhile, Forest is the main character of the film:))) and he experienced firsthand historic events of 20th century without knowing how they are important. He was so sweet because he did not know he was doing good things. He listened his first girl friend's saying to him( whatever happens you should run)and then he got his status.
I think Tom Hanks played his role very well and that's why he won the oscar award.:)I searched the film and I learned for the character which is called Forest Gump, John Travolta was the original choice of the character but he turned negatively to play that role. Bill Murray was considered but Tom Hanks signed the agreement after he read the script of the film. Visual effects was used in many scene such as Forest's meeting with presidents and shaking their hands.
It was good and warming movie. If you want to spend your time with watching film and you do not watch Forest Gump, you should watch it.:))

5.Streotyping People/ The Ugly Truth
With my words, streotype is putting people in the box which has strict borders. If you are doing that, you would think in the way of streotyped thoughts. For example; like the texts which we read, says that all americans are rich. So, if you see an American, you'll think she/he is economically better than you. However, it is not good because if you see someone who is American, if she/he is not economically good. Do you consider he/she is as an American? I think this is the problematic issue which has to be solved. Like the text questioned streotyping even it is positive, are positive streotypes reaaly good or they only get the expectations higher? My idea about that, because of expectations are getting higher, if people do not feel that you have not correspond their expectations, may be or probably they would not be nice as before. It is weird. Actually we talked about putting people in categorize unconsciously like looking their apperiance. Firstly we see people's gender/sex and then having some guesses about it's age and the last one ,which people have a look or check, is it's race. I learned these things are called " salience priciples". I try to consider many ideas about streotyping and i decided that is not good even it's positive and that's why i'll try to be neutral about people.

4.difficulties about choosing the subject and then decision part
I realized many people had some difficulties about their choices. There is a lot of option. I guess that is why they could not make choice but i googled that problem and i found different comments about it. Now I can really understand when people had many option, they could not see which one is better for them and they stuck in the problem. May be they could quit choosing or searching other options until they found the best one. Whatever i choose sterotyping for my i-search paper. I suprised i made my choice finally.:) However,I hope that is my final decision. By the way i'm joking that one is my final decision.;)Also, I finished internet detective and i can say that website is useful. While you are reading something, it'll give you a quiz and then you can realize what you get from the article. I learned lots of things like what URL can tell us. (ac: type of organisation responsible for the website, mostly it uses for academic servers)

3. todayyy...
Today, I learned useful website, which helps people to be able to understand which website has true informations or not. For now i can make better choices between the websites which i'm going to use in an essay or i-search paper.:)The second thing which i learned today is how annoted bibliografies could prepared. It took my attention because it is more complicated than i did before. I have to search the subject more detailed and then i'll use APA format for citations which i'm going to choose. After that i'll do summarizations of why i choose that websites in 2 or 4 sentences. Also, I'm still thinking about the research project's subject. I wish i'll choose one of them sooner.:)

First search paper writing :)
Today, we talked about i-search paper. In the class Sonja gave some important informations about i-search paper like how we are going to make it, what it is...and i realized for that search paper there is lots of things that we can make our choise. Actually, that is so good because i can create "my work" considering our options. I mean by saying "my work", i have options, which are sufficient, to chose whatever i want and then i can do my work in the conditions of our subject's flexibility.:)) I was pleased for that. By the way i'm thinking to write my search paper about adolesence or streotyping. If i choose to write about adolesence, i'll analyse various aspects of adolescent identity and the movie The Graduate&Billy Elliot, consept of American Dream and then i'll start to write it. However if i choose streotyping, i'll analyse how particular cultural group of choice is typically streotyped with in America and it's some of the implications of streotyping in the society. I hope i'll choose one of them but i can't decide yet.:(

welcome to my new blog page:))
After i spend hours to create that blog page, now i can write my first blog :) Last week spring term started and i met my new english teacher Sonja. She gave some informations about the course. While she was giving the informations, she said somethings about blogging and it took my attention and then i searched to be able to understand what it is after that i decided to like it because it is so funny.
Whatever last week we watched "The Graduate". My first thought about the movie was how weird it is.:) Mrs. Robinson and her daugther's relationship with Benjamin was so different and weird too. The most recognizable thing is relationships between Benjamin and his parents. For example; At Benjamin's birthday party his parents did not want to talk with him, when Benjamin wanted to talk with his father for a minute and they gave a weird present to him, diving suit, and probably they wanted to show the diving suit to their friends, who were not friends of Benjamin at Benjamin's birthday party and then Benjamin jumped into the pool, looked up but his parents pushed him into deep of the pool. In my opinion this is a weird scene.:) I think it shows the gaps of the relationships between his parents and Benjamin. There is another thing, which is Mrs. Robinson tried hard Benjamin to have a relationship with him and she did it. Whatever she said happened in the movie. These kind of things took my attention.
After i watched the movie, i googled that film and i found it had greatest film of all time on AFI'S 100 years 100 movies and it watched from many people in Canada and United States.Dustin Hoffman earned an oscar nomination for his performance at the movie. The film's single which is called Mrs.Robinson had rose of the charts in 1968 but in that movie it is changed. The new version of the song used in the movie. In the class we talked about the movie just a little bit. I decided to watch other movies which is chosen by AFI's 100 years 100 movies. For now i watched one of them but i'll watch others.:)
